If hiking off-trail and getting a little wet doesn’t bother you, Little Rocky Hollow State Nature Preserve is right up your alley. The only trail in the 256-acre preserve is an access trail that takes into the preserve. From there you’re on your own. Once off-trail, you’ll hike up the narrow Little Rocky Hollow, passing at least 6(!) notable waterfalls as you make your way to the head of the gorge. Like most waterfalls in Southern Ohio, these cascades can dry up pretty quick, so it’s in your best interests to visit after it’s rained a bit. The permit gives you up to a 10-day window to visit, so take advantage of this to come at the best time.
